Miss Thea

Director

Miss Thea

Hi, my name is Thea and I have the privilege of being the Director of the Playschool.  I have been in the field of education for 28 years. Through those years I have directed and taught kiddos from 2 years old to 2nd grade.  My first love is preschool, and I am blessed to do what God designed me to do and love it!  It all started with a little girl who loved to write with chalk on chalkboards, pretending to be a teacher.  The chalkboard is a fading concept, except for artsy Pinterest users and very cool coffee house decorators, but the dream continues.  The moral, never underestimate the value of your child’s play, it will lead to great things!

Over the years, my interactions with children from many backgrounds and different ages has taught me that children are beautifully unique, eager to learn and excited to grow, they just need the right place to be and the right people to believe in them. There is nothing more rewarding than partnering with families and teachers to help children explore their curiosities, learn to love themselves and others and cultivate a strong hope and faith in our loving God. When I am not immersed in the world of preschool, you can find me enjoying time, hopefully at the beach, with friends and family!  It is helpful that my husband and two grown children are the best friends I could ask for!

Miss MaryAnn

Admin and Support

Miss MaryAnn

Hi I’m MaryAnn, and I love being the admin assistant and general support person for the Playschool.  This job is a joy but quite a leap from my career in Civil Service. I retired from  the Department of Homeland Security after  37 ½ years and loved the experience.  However, nothing warms my heart like interacting with preschoolers, experiencing their wonder and curiosity for the beautiful world God created.

Being Admin and Support allows me time to play and share laughs with the children, without actually having the responsibility of teaching!  What could be better?  When I’m not being a human jungle gym for preschoolers, I spend my time with my beautiful daughter, Hannah, adventuring around our great country.

Miss Rachel

Hello, my name is Mrs. Rachel. I have a great love for children and Jesus, and I love that I can incorporate my two loves into my work. For the last 14 years,it’s been a joy to see children’s faces light up as we sing songs, get creative (and messy) and read Bible stories! As a teacher, my goal is to get children excited about learning through my own enthusiasm and provide opportunities to learn something new every day.

When I’m not pouring myself into this fantastic job, I love spending time with my husband of over eight years and our three beautiful children. For even more fun, I paint, practice photography, and interior design. The outdoors are my jam, especially the beach!

After receiving my certificate in Child Development up in Orange County, I came to San Diego and love working at Newbreak Playschool! This is my 9th year teaching and my passion to create a soft, safe and comfy environment for children, grows every day. Seeing how God created each of us so lovingly, moves me to share love and acceptance for every child. We are all so unique, we learn differently, we process differently and we see differently, my goal is to celebrate and share those different perspectives in the classroom.

When I’m not in the classroom, I enjoy hanging out at the beach, hanging with my friends and playing cards chilling in not so chilly hot yoga.

Miss Kalissa

I live in Point Loma! Working with children for the last 11 years has been amazing and I am excited to be the three and four year old’s teacher here at Newbreak Playschool. Teaching is an incredible journey watching children grow and learn and every year brings new fun!

Every child is unique, their needs are special to them and every one of them matters. My goal is always to create a safe, inviting environment that gives children security and space to grow individually and in community. My connection to God is vital to my teaching, as He has blessed me with His existence, I hope to bless my children with His love!

Teaching for the last three years has been so much fun and I look forward to many more years doing this! Every year bring new energy, new excitement, new children to care for and ignites my passion for teaching young children.

Every child sees the world differently and deserves the opportunity to explore their world in their own unique way. Questions and curiosity are a child’s gift and as a teacher, I want to help them find answers by providing fun, engaging materials for them to explore and play!

This world is so beautiful and I want to incorporate God’s creation into children’s lives with hands- on activities that build connection and understanding and awareness.

Miss Paola

Hi, I’m Miss Paola and I am so happy to be a part of the Newbreak Team! You can find me closing out the day and planning cool outside activities!

I love painting, sunsets, and adventures with friends. Working with children gives me all the things I love because we are always painting, children are a ray of sunshine and the adventures of preschoolers are endless! If I had to pick an absolute favorite thing in all of God’s great world, it would be ice cream! Well God, working with kiddos, then ICE CREAM!

It is also my pleasure to be the Children Ministry Leader here at Newbreak Church Ocean Beach, stop by on a Sunday morning and see me!

Miss Carolina

Chef & Support

Miss Carolina

It’s wonderful to be here at Newbreak Playschool, as the cook and all around support to the staff and children. In Brazil, where I am from, I graduated as a chef, so it’s nice to put my culinary skills to the test with preschoolers.

It has always been my passion to learn, to serve and to work with children!
Effective communication, support, and full bellies is what each child needs and I’m excited to work here and provide each of these.
